One Great Way To Escape Monotony Is Going Camping
I was full to the top with aggravation and the monotony of life. So I decided to go camping. Yes, getting outdoors and away from the house would be a good way to unwind and get a new perspective on things. I had my camouflage pants and shirt on already, so all I needed now was my brown boots. They were there in the back of the closet, where they had been for a very long time.
Once dressed, I grabbed some of my necessary gear, the flashlight, the sleeping bag, matches, and lantern. I made my way through all the new home decor accents that were freshly added only days ago, and out through the front door to my trusty truck. I threw the gear into the bed of the truck and went ahead and started it up. Then I went back inside for the rest.
I needed my tent from the basement. The light was out, but enough was coming in through the window to see fairly well. I walked down the stairs, and I picked up the tent, a small one I had bought years ago, that fit neatly into a box. As I turned to walk back up the stairs, I tripped over a dyson upright vacuum cleaner that belonged to my mother. I dropped the tent onto a sickle that was lying on the basement floor, and it went right through the box and the tent as well.
I took the tent out to examine it, and it was punctured through in several places. Too raggedy for me to really use. So I decided I would just sleep on the ground, close to the camp fire, and rough it, like I did when I was young. I would brave the mosquitos and other bugs that came with camping out Hillbilly style.
I sat the tent down in the corner, and the side of it kicked over a can of paint thinner that had a lid that was not on good. Soon the floor was covered with paint thinner before I could get the can upright. Now I had to get some rags and get the paint thinner up. So I looked around and found a box full of old rags, and soaked up as much paint thinner as I could. The fumes were still pretty stout, so I had to go outside and run the hose through the window, and wet down and dilute what was on the basement floor.
I soon had the basement floor diluted and well rinsed. At least now the basement was not flammable. I was free now to go back to loading my gear. But something had happened since I first came into the basement. I could barely see at all now. I had taken so long with my mess, that it dusk had fallen, and it was too late for me to take this camping trip.
I unloaded my truck and took the stuff I had laid in its bed back into the house. It was dark now and I had to laugh at my attempt at camping. I could see the first star of the evening as I walked out on the porch for a last look. Well, one thing this evening was not, was monotonous.
Why are some hunter’s camouflage crazy?
Let be more specific with this Q. I went hunting early the other morning and the guy with me had every single thing camouflaged. I mean his lighter, flashlight, binoculars, pocket knife…everything! We get in the boat before daylight and he can’t find his camo flashlight he set on the bank, then near our duck blind he looses his camo lighter and to top off his day the strap on his binoculars breaks and we spend a ½ hour looking for it on the bank of the river.
So please explain to me why other people don’t buy bright orange small items so they don’t get lost, as I do? Why carry camo everything? I don’t think a bright orange pocket knife will spook the game do you? I mean there are orange camo to break a pattern up........
Here in Virginia we have a minimum of 100 square inches of blaze orange that must be worn while firearm hunting. That's a ball cap in over all size. I have seen hunters with full fledged ghillie suits wearing camo under it! Everything camo'd, lighters, bino's, straps, suspenders, socks, face paint, the whole 9 yards. Where's the 100 square inches of orange? No where to be seen. I have yet to figure out why anyone wears a ghillie suit to hunt, all I can reckon is they're some kinda para-military wannabe's. I've hunted for years with a blaze orange cap, duck cloth jacket with flannel lining and dickies pants and boots, never saw a need to dress up like G.I Joe.
